Some may remember that last week I posted about working with a large file,
and with questions about SQL.

First, I want to thank the people that responded with offers to help -
the offers were most welcome. And of course the comments made in the
forum here proved, in the long run to be very helpful

As I explained to a few, the client decided against doing anything for
this problem with SQL, or with OPNQRYF, or for that matter, with RPG. I
want to take a moment to especially thank Dean: Dean, your answer was
thorough, clear, and at my level. Thank you.

Now the rest of the story for those interested:

I was with the client Tuesday and Wednesday. I showed them what I had
done in RPG and cautioned them of the poor performance even though I had
made a smaller 500,000 record file from the original 6,000,000 file. We
ran the job. I'd set it up as a self-submitting batch job, and was
reading the file straight through (no K).

The report ran, and we looked it over. We ran it one more time. They
decided that the project was back on, and that RPG is surprisingly fast;
but if OPNQRYF is faster then I should try it, since they don't have SQL.

Just thought I'd let you guys and gals hear how it turned out.
