I was looking for a way to trigger a program for every job that started
on the system. Called IBM's Support Line, but unfortunately, they were
unable to help. Called IBM's AS/400 API hotline, (Got the number from
one of the AS/400 magazines article on API's) and they had the answer!

First - Hats off and many thanks to Bruce Vining, and the ither folks at
the API Hotline. You are doing a GREAT job. If anyone at IBM sees this,
please let the proper people know.

The solution to my problem was made available as PTF SF28805 for V3R6,
and was included in the base operating system in V3R7. It is only
available on RISC machines. The answeer is provided using an exit
program and data queues.

After registering the exit program, you can specify the subsystem to
watch, as either a single sbs, generic, or *ANY/*ALL. You also specify
a keyed data queue to receive notification at. You can get your choice
of Job Start, Job hit the Job Queue, or Job End. (Or any combination of
these)

When one of the monitored actions occurs, an entry is placed on the data
queue, complete with job ID values, and what type of action (Queue,
Start, End) occurred. At that point, you can do anything you want with
the info.

At present, the only documentation readily available is the cover letter
from SF28805, but will be documented in V4R1 manual.

If anyone needs furher info, please e-mail me.
