As can be seen form Al's experience- design can increase the number of programs that will have to be touched and tested. This just proves the LoC is a relatively meaningless order of magnitude of work effort or scope by itself. There is much more to it.. Agreed don't fool with dates in indexes. Be careful of the Ad-Hoc User's requirements remain natural and normal. Mess with these and you can compound your problems.
