I don't know about everyone else, but we need it for BPCS.  BPCS creates data
areas and work members based upon the device name.  The data areas in
particular are usually prefixed with 1-2 characters, based upon the function.
 Ergo, you end up with QPADEV001-9 sharing the SAME function control data
area!  Causes a few problems for us, I don't know how many old S/36
applications are out there doing the same or similar things with ?WS?...
