Carl, In a message dated 97-05-21 21:53:07 EDT, you write: > Good point Neil, except there is no (as far as I know) equivanent for > telnet. Maybe someday. Maybe I am ignorant or braindead, but what is the > big deal anyway, why do some of you guys out there need a correlation > between device and device name??? I don't know about everyone else, but we need it for BPCS. BPCS creates data areas and work members based upon the device name. The data areas in particular are usually prefixed with 1-2 characters, based upon the function. Ergo, you end up with QPADEV001-9 sharing the SAME function control data area! Causes a few problems for us, I don't know how many old S/36 applications are out there doing the same or similar things with ?WS?... Regards, Dean Asmussen Enterprise Systems Consulting, Inc.
