EIA 232/V.24 Adapter -- MIDRANGE-L

Is there any way to connect a modem to the EIA 232/V.24 adapter line and run
CA/400 Asynchronously?  I have only used them for a SDLC connection. I know
it can be done with the ASCII Work Station Controller.
