Last Friday, I posted a message detailing some co-existence experiences
I was having with Synapse's WinAPPC and CA/400 W95/NT client. In that
message I faulted both Synapse and IBM, and called Synapse technocal
excellence into question.

I should have known better. Questioning the technical excellence at
Synapse apparently touched a nerve. <g> Within hours I received phone
calls from both Jerry Draper and Joe Frank of Synapse. Synapse has
always been technically excellent and after talking to these guys I am
convinced that has not changed.

I have heard before there are some "communication of information" issues
between Netsoft and IBM regarding the Netsoft router that is bundled
with CA/400. Apparently this extends not only to IBM, but to others
such as Synapse as well. Synapse is loathe to blame others, which is an
admirable trait (sounds too much like whining), but the truth is that
certain information from Netsoft that was required by Synapse was not
supplied in a timely fashion as promised. Jerry recently talked
personally to the founder of Netsoft and at least some of this
information was provided just last Tuesday.

(An aside: The version of the router supplied with CA/400 has been
'behind' the version available directly from Netsoft. Reading between
the lines, I think Netsoft was surprised of the rigorousness of the
testing that IBM goes through before releasing software. It seems
plausible to me that the version that Netsoft has released may not have
passed the testing that IBM requires. OTOH, IBM may be 'tweaking'
something. I do not know either of these for a fact, they are just
possibilities.)

Those guys at Synapse are probably cringing at this post as they
repeatedly stated they were not going to hide behind nor try to place
blame somewhere else. My post last Friday was harsh enough however,
that I felt I had to post this message. Incidently, just last Thursday
I had installed the latest version of the 32-bit WinAPPC (V4.08) and had
not tried the CA/400 data transfer with this version. Joe Frank
suggested I do so. To my pleasant surprise, the CA/400 data transfer
will now run with WinAPPC up.

Now if Synapse could just make the IBM CA/400 data transfer run
faster . . .
