From: Tim Lennon on 25/04/97 09:20 On the subject of activation groups and using SETON LR (etc.....): 1. I remember something useful in a distant News/400, which suggested that using the default activation group (*DFTACTGRP) was inefficient. 2. I had a (non-fatal) problem where the CRTPGM command was attempting to bind the service programs QSYS/QUSRGFA1 and QSYS/QZCACLT, but failed because I had insufficient authority. Assist/400 sent this to Rochester, who apparently have logged it as a problem but, due to the non-fatal nature, don't envisage a quick solution. 3. I've been closing all the modules within my ILE using RETURN, and usually closing the entry module with SETON LR, which I understand to be the 'right' way to do things. Does anybody have any different opinions? 4. We're currently using a 320 (CISC, 40Gb array), and having done my training on a RISC box, I can't help feeling that you really need to move to RISC when using ILE, if only to speed up the development cycle somewhat....
