Hi All,

David,

With ASCII terminals you can set up the speed between AS/400 and modem to
38400 bps. and 19200 bps with Client/Access.

The way to maintain fixed the speed between the ASCII port and Modem is
seting up the parameters with a PC terminal software, sendig AT commands to
the modem. Windows Terminal program works well, as almost all the PC
communications programs.

a) Conect the modem to the PC.
b) Setup the port in the communications software as well as the speed that
you need the modem get fixed (19.2 Kbps for C/A)
c) Type the AT Commands.

AT&B1 On USR this command fix the speed of the port
ATS0=1 '  '   '    '       enables autoanswer at the first ring
AT&W ' ' ' ' Writes the configuration to the modem Non
Volatile RAM (NVRAM)
d) Connect the modem to the ASCII port and
e) Setup the speed of the device description to the fixed speed instead of
*CALC

For ASCII terminal emulation (I use VT100) additionally I set up the
inactivity timer of the modem to 5 min. with ATS19=5, this is not useful
with C/A because the link is always active (RD and SD blinking even when
you are not sending anything in the workstation).

I have two clients, one of them with six devices configured as VT100
terminals at 38400 bps with USRobotics 14.4, and the other with C/A and
USRobotics Sportster 28.8, without problems.

The link speed is managed by the modems and the ASCII ports always have the
fixed speed, even when the other side modems maybe can run at lower or
higer speeds, or even the line is noisy.

In order to get the maximum throughput I set up the speed on the emulation
program (for terminals) to 115Kbps, and in C/A to 19200.

Hope this help.

Saludos,

J.A. Meza

Subject: 28800 modems?

Greetings!

Does anyone know the max speed on a ASCII WSC?

I've got a few USR Sportster 28.8 modems on our ASCII WSC, but I can't
seem to find a way to configure the MODEM to COMPUTER speed. The only
option I seem to be able to find is *CALC for the line speed.

Ideally, I would like to set it to 57600... but at minimum, I would like
to set it to 38400.

Here's how it's configured now...
