I've seen a few as well, with the same response as Bob!  Suffice it to say
that Management at one location went to a trade show for their industry, and
came back mandating an "upgrade" to a Bluebird PC network running software
that was "tailored" to their industry.

Needless to say, after two years of "iffy" record locking and shared data,
they bought an AS/400 and their upgraded old custom S/3-S/34-S/36 software to
a native AS/400 solution.  Some of my more interesting "old code" anecdotes
come from this site, but they have been running without a call for over three
years.  No heads rolled because management equated to ownership, but they
have gone from centrally processing all transactions to each of eight
locations keying and tracking their own business from each of eight locations
via CA/400 and leased lines...
