I'm assuming "Computer Science or related field" would cover CIS.

My bachelors is in business, with an IT management focus, though I was getting a Computer Science degree back when that encompassed programming.....

John -

I'd just like to know the answer to one question:
Why do so many companies specify a bachelor's degree in CompSci as a job requirement for a
programming position?

I have not yet met an AS/400 - iSeries - System i (and that's with a little "i", NOT a big
one..) that has a degree in computer science.

As any good IBM midrange technical professional will attest, a degree in Computer Science
is totally irrelevant to programming on this platform - we're not creating new hardware,
writing compilers, or _any_ kind of bare metal stuff like is taught in any Computer
Science curriculum.

Any person with a CompSci degree would be totally bored with the System i - on the other
hand, a more reasonable expectation would be having a degree in Computer Information
Systems.

Inquiring minds would like to know...

I have my suspicions about this kind of job listing, but I won't elaborate...yet.
