Maybe there is hope for underfunded/no funded/not party backed candidates -
it just happened in the Indianapolis mayoral race where a Republican, not
backed by the party, defeated the two term Democrat ! :-)

I've commented on this in another e-mail, so I won't repeat myself in this.
Oh, and I'm no fan of Hills. As a matter of fact, I oppose her candidacy on
similar grounds as you state. I do not want anyone running who's even a
distant relative of the Clinton's, the Bush's, or any previous president.
I'd like to see Ron Paul go up against Mike Gravel, but the media would hate
that. Those two haven't raised enough campaign contributions to interest the
media. And without sufficient campaign money, candidates don't stand a
chance.
