We have been retained by a client in the Northern Illinois area to
locate a manager of AS/400 app development.
Responsibilities include:
* Maintenance, enhancement, and new development within the
proprietary, custom developed RPG back office order management and
fulfillment system that drives approximately two-thirds of the company's
business.
* Coordination with new development within the company's client /
server applications that drives approximately one-third of the company's
business.
* Maintenance, enhancement, and new development of databases
constructed using DB2/400.
* Tight integration and partnership with a development team
challenged with the construction of a new, state of the art order
management and fulfillment system being developed using IBM's Java and
Websphere technologies.
* Support the Director of Application Development and the CIO in
developing the overall IT strategy, vision, and goals for the technology
organization and ensures those goals are aligned to the business goals.
* Provide mentoring as a cornerstone of career development for all
key direct reports, facilitating the talent management processes that
result in building a talented leadership team within the applications
development area.
Qualifications:
* A minimum of 10 years experience working in an Information
Technology department, 5 of which must be in a managerial role, with a
proven track record of advancement of which a significant portion must
be in RPG IV applications development maintenance, development, and
strategy.
* Direct experience developing and maintaining queries using IQ
Query and AS/400 Query, as well as CL and DDS in an AS/400 environment.
* Previous experience in a consumable products distribution
industry with an emphasis on customer call center integration with
information systems. Direct experience in the back office support of
catalog sales and internet ordering.
* A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems
from an accredited university. A master's degree in Information Systems
or Business Administration with emphasis on information systems is
highly desired.
* Hands on experience custom programming in the RPG development
language and use of related report writing and query analysis tools in
an AS/400 environment. Strong experience in the selection and deployment
of purchased applications or ERP packages.
* A seasoned veteran in the formation, use, and strict adherence
to structured application development methodologies using appropriate
tools across multiple development teams and technologies. Believes in
the value of disciplined project management, but is able to utilize
techniques of Rapid Application Development (RAD) as a method to return
quick results to key stakeholders.
* An "A" player who has demonstrated the ability to define and
meet service level commitments and achieve business goals in a timely
and effective manner.
* Possesses exceptional organization skills and the capability to
instill confidence in this function throughout all aspects of the MIS
organization and the company.
* The personal characteristics of a dynamic, highly motivated and
focused individual with a strong desire to succeed. This candidate
should have an outgoing, polished personal style that will enable
him/her to build strong relationships both inside and outside the
company.
* A visionary and strategic thinker capable of quickly moving
from the "strategic thinker" to the "hands-on tactical implementation
specialist". Must be able to talk on the level of his/her audience
without sacrificing the desired end result.
* A leader and motivator who can ignite the teams to achieve /
overachieve the common goals of the company.
* Ability to work in a team environment and develop a partnership
based on trust among the various teams.
* Must demonstrate excellent stature and communications skills
(both written and oral) to drive change throughout the organization.
* An entrepreneur with strong leadership skills and the ability
to manage multiple functions without sacrificing customer service and
employee satisfaction.
