Sit down.

I turn 51 in 10 days. I started work here 1 week after my high school
graduation at age 17. Worked here continuously even while a fulltime
college student (BS in computers, MS in business). Worked as a truck driver
for 17 months, then a S/3 Model 10 was installed here. Been in charge of IT
from that point forward. I do not know any IT workers with more longevity
in one location.

If I had changed jobs regularly, I would probably be earning twice what I
earn now, but it has been worth it to me because I was able to coach LL and
basketball for all 3 of my sons. The only games I missed were those in
direct conflict with each other, or I was at COMMON or another conference.
I missed virtually nothing of their lives.

A doubling of income would be helpful these days, though, with 2 in college.

This post in MIDRANGE-L got me to thinking ... anyone know what the
average tenure of a technology worker (System i or
other) is these days?

I'm just a few days shy of 10 years at my current job ...
longest I've ever been at a single company. Before I came here (MKS)
I didn't stay more than 3 years at any one company. I kind of always
was in 'looking for a new job' mode.

Any thoughts?
