Your being hosed by the import of cheap labor called Guest Workers. You
entered the market at the wrong time, the IT sector has taken a direct hit
of cheap imported labor at the end of 2000. Companies have learned to become
cost effective and they want more imports. Later this year expect the limit
cap of  H-1B's imported into North America to be raised or even removed.
Some say we just experienced the first wave of destruction...time will tell.

Regardless, You should never be put in position to ask for a raise. Maybe
its just me, but I view it as a positive reception when the company rewards
you on their own recognition. Your pay depends on several factors, such as
company perks like 100% paid insurance!

The best way to find out how much your worth is to take control of your
position and start  exploring other companies yourself. Dont ever allow your
decision to 'go' or 'stay' be based on what Smith is making at abc company.
Smith making 25k-30k may be because the person is a  deadbeat.While John at
xyz taking in 85k may be because his uncle owns the place or he works 7/24
with no insurance.
