Yep. I was just slow to reply :-)

Turned out that wasn't as painful as I'd feared (if anything,
less painful than doing it in RPG!), and I've now got it working.
For some reason, the total number of records isn't showing up,
but I'm sure I can fix that.

The open of a VIEW is a query for which a row count is not really established; for an *ALLIO implementation or implementation with a temporary file, the row count may be available. Even with the DDS LF the count is not legitimate, as only reading every record and counting them can be trusted; i.e. rows may be added or deleted [without something like LOCK EXCLUSIVE preventing concurrent I\O].
