Quote: Within two years IBM plans to remove the i5/OS ability to restore system state programs not digitally signed by IBM. Only programs provided by IBM will be able to use system state. End-quote
How long does IBM think it will take the smartest and most experienced AS/400 coders in the world to duplicate the digital signature? And please don't deny that most MI-programmers happen to be in exactly that category, because you need plenty of smarts and experience to even consider starting on MI-programming.
Given that some people perceive a need for something that IBM is not going to supply in a timely manner if at all and going by past experiences, I can pretty much guarantee that within one month of IBM removing the ability to restore system state programs not digitally signed by IBM, there will be programs that duplicate that digital signature for any desired program.
I am only a small time dabbler where it comes to MI-programming and mostly a reader of this list, but I know something about the history and the limits of security.
Advice to IBM: Stop this nonsense before it is too late and start listening to the users.
