Gene, I've not investigated in depth but the same situation exists for
separate commands in system() and in FTP.  The second command doesn't know
anything about the first.  I am not certain if this is a thread issue or one
of call level.  For a long time I have used system() and the like to call a
CL program which does the OVR and the CALL instead of two separate system()
commands.

Not much help, but at least you know that it has been this way for quite a
while.
