There's a simple enough way to avoid the whole GENCSRC mess:

Don't update the OS on your development boxes.

At Touchtone, we still do all MI development, as well as all development
for QuestView, on a D02 running V2R3, and we do all other development on
a 40S running V4R2. That way, our products will run on any hardware
anybody's ever likely to try and put them on.
