IMHO, the only dumb question is the one that goes unasked. 8-byte integer math ops were added to NMI (to satisfy some COBOL requirements, I believe) back in V3R1 or so... Support for "long long" in the C compiler ("front-end") is newer, first available via a PTF in V4R2, IIRC. So, the "back-end" has been handling 8-byte math operations for years -- it's the "front-ends" that are still catching up... -blair Blair Wyman -- iSeries JVM -- (507) 253-2891 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I was born not knowing, and have had only a little time to change that here and there." -- Richard P. This is to say that "long long" variables didn't exist until they finally wokeup and got serious about terabyte space and gave us 64bit math.... Can anyone confirm this for me?
