IMHO, the only dumb question is the one that goes unasked.

8-byte integer math ops were added to NMI (to satisfy some COBOL
requirements, I believe) back in V3R1 or so...  Support for "long long" in
the C compiler ("front-end") is newer, first available via a PTF in V4R2,
IIRC.  So, the "back-end" has been handling 8-byte math operations for
years -- it's the "front-ends" that are still catching up...

Dumb question:

I told that in effect we didn't have 64bit math ops on this machine until
v4r5/v5r1.  This is to say that "long long" variables didn't exist until
they finally wokeup and got serious about terabyte space and gave us 64bit
math....

Can anyone confirm this for me?
