yeah, for REALLY big numbers (like in some public key lengths) even 2048 bits are not enough... But you can always add 2048 bits at a time, much as we humans add numbers by adding them one digit at a time. (Nearly) unlimited precision is easy. I seem to recall that REXX does not have a limitation on the size of numbers. ----- Original Message ----- From: Joe Pluta <joepluta@plutabrothers.com> To: <MI400@midrange.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 04, 2001 10:44 AM Subject: RE: LONG, LONG math - aka 64bit math.... > Yes, but what do they do for BIG numbers? <grin> > > Happy Independence Day, to all the US list attendees! > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: Leif Svalgaard > > > > the machine has always had 2048-bit ADD/SUB instructions > > (ADDLC/SUBLC). > > +--- > | This is the MI Programmers Mailing List! > | To submit a new message, send your mail to MI400@midrange.com. > | To subscribe to this list send email to MI400-SUB@midrange.com. > | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MI400-UNSUB@midrange.com. > | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: dr2@cssas400.com > +--- +--- | This is the MI Programmers Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MI400@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MI400-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MI400-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: dr2@cssas400.com +---
