Well I dug out microfiche (don't ask). Version 0 program template has maximum 8191 dictionary entries, instruction operands are two bytes. Operand bits 3-15 hold a dictionary number 1-8191. Operand bits 0-2 denote the operand type: 000: simple dictionary reference or null operand 001: unsigned immediate value 010: subscript, e.g. ARRAY(INDEX) 011: substring, e.g. STRING(INDEX:LENGTH) 100: explicit base, e.g. BASEPTR -> DICTNO 101: signed immediate value 110: explicit based subscript, e.g. BASEPTR -> ARRAY(INDEX) 111: explicit based substring, e.g. BASEPTR -> STRING(INDEX:LENGTH) Version 1 program template has maximum 65535 dictionary entries, instruction operands are three bytes. Operand bits 8-23 hold a dictionary number 1-65535. Operand bits 5-7 denote the operand type. By the way the template allows some interesting things that the QPR* programs don't. For example four forms of branch extenders can appear in the template: CMPNV(B) A,B / EQ(SKIP); /* branch point form */ CMPNV(B) A,B / EQ(IPTR); /* instruction pointer form */ CMPNV(B) A,B / EQ( =+2); /* relative instruction number form */ CMPNV(B) A,B / EQ(123); /* absolute instruction number form */ However the QPR* programs don't allow the 'absolute instruction number form'. Some OS/400 programs and development tools (SEU,PDM,SDA) used to come with program creation templates. When I ran them through my template disassembler, I observed they used 'absolute instruction number forms'. So perhaps they weren't born through the QPR* process? +--- | This is the MI Programmers Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MI400@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MI400-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MI400-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: dr2@cssas400.com +---
