How interesting! I was pretty sure I had tested this on V3R2 before, but now
that I think of it, it's obvious that I hadn't because the source I wrote to
do my utility used variable names with >10 characters.

I duplicated the QAUOOPT file to another file named DB$PDMOPTS, and changed
the PDM defaults for that, thinking that possibly, in v3r2, that a file name
other than 'QAUOOPT' might be written out there. But nothing popped up. So,
definitely, this information is being stored elsewhere on a v3r2 system.
Also, I found that the "Save session defaults" and "Change type and text"
values are not where I expected them.

Anybody know where they are on v3r2?

OK. I now see the problem. Firstly under V3R2, for some reason the DMPSYSOBJ
does not show the options file, it shows the library and member but not the
file itself. This was why I posted the question in the first place, as I
couldn't find this piece of information on this box. I have since tried this
 on
a box running V4R4 and until you actually go into PDM to amend the options
file, the options file/library/member are all blank! As soon as you change
 them
then they appear.
