Richard and Vojtech:
Instead of using a user field in one of the Mapics files there is a way to accomplish this thru Mapics options and here is a suggestion.
1. From the COM Main Menu select option 6 (File Maintenance)
2. From the File Maintenance Menu select option 7 (Code Files)
3. From the Code File Maintenance Menu select option 14 (Item Industry Class) and create yourself an item industry class of GTIN via the F6 key twice (first time to edit second time to add entry)
4. Go back to the COM Main Menu and select option 6 (File Maintenance)
5. From the Item Maintenance Menu select option 3 (Related Item Information)
6. From the Maintenance Item sub file screen put a 15 next to the item would want a GTIN associated to
7. On the next screen press F6 and add the GTIN by putting an item industry class of GTIN (previously created) and then GTIN number under Industry item number and a description if you want.
8. After adding these records you will have a record added to Mapics file MBB6CPP which you can now chain to by item number and item industry class code (GTIN) and retrieve your GTIN number and there are also some user fields you can use for you own purposes if you need.
I not sure if this is an avenue you would like to use.

Hello,
we use the GTIN code for our manufactured items. We put GTIN code to the
table MBB2CPP in the field B2OEMN (Char 22). You could use any user field
in the ITEMASA/ITMRVA instead.
I created an trigger program (*INSERT *BEFORE) to calculate GTIN code for
our new products.
I think you should not use Customer Item Cross Reference file (MBBIREP),
because the GTIN code is not specific for each customer, it is specific
for each item.
Do not hesite to contact me.

Just so I am clear, you are setting up the COM Item Cross Reference so
that whether a customer uses the GTIN no. or the regular product number
the regular product no. gets used internally?
Did you consider using a user defined field in Item Revision so that you
can use either one or both, say for labeling?

Hi Richard:
I am not sure what you mean by "Anyone dealing with this?".
We have several customers who are using GTIN numbers. Most are using these
codes as their item #'s.
So we are setting up item cross reference tables in COM to handle this.
If you have any specific question or concerns please elaborate in an
email.

Anyone dealing with this? This is similar to a global UPC product
identifier and starting to gain some traction among companies that have to
ship outside the US, especially with consumer products. INFOR support
says it is part of future plans, but no commitment date
