James,

Absolutely correct, but I was assuming (yeah, I know, I know...) that she would just use the record and playback macro functionality of Client Access, and wouldn't do any VBScript programming.  I also had my CA macros log in and log out, and you can even have them scheduled.  That's how I ran my system backups, IPL, and restarting everything for a while.  Cool tool, and it's totally free.

But overall, ROBOT is the best solution, if you have the $$$ for it.

Macros do a lot more than just record key strokes.

This can get you started with the VBScript aspect:
http://www.mcpressonline.com/programming/scripting/beef-up-client-access-macros-with-vbscript.html

You can create a macro to log in, run a process, log-out.  So you don't have to worry about it being 'on' 24/7, or affect your backups.

I've used them with variables, external files, output files, to update data, etc. To me the key is to think VB6, not .NET. (but that's just me)
Unfortunately my macros are for 3270 mainframe (passport software), otherwise I would send you some.

Sue,

It's possible (but admittedly awkward) to use a Client Access macro to perform a function like that.  I've done it, but there are NO variables available (as there are with ROBOT).  All you get are recorded keystrokes, and no real way to tell if there's a problem or not.  But, that being said, you CAN do it that way.

Thank you for the suggestions.  I already have a program written to
populate POOFFL.  If we don't have ROBOT, is there any other way to
process it automatically?

Thanks again.

We are staring to use the Offline PO creation feature and would like to
automate the processing.  Has anyone done this?  I am hoping to call a
program with the processing parms.

Thanks.

Hello!  Do you mean using option 13. Create Purchase orders from
offline file on menu AM6M10?  If so...here is what I did.

I wrote simple interface program to clear/populate this file (the
POOFFL file).  I then used Help system's ROBOT Replay to run through
screens for option 13.  ROBOT replay emulates keystrokes - we've talked
about this software in other discussions. I placed my jobs in Help
Systems ROBOT job scheduler to run in order.  Once option 13 is done,
it updates the records in POOFFL and one of the fields is whether it
was able to create a release or not.  I then query POOFFL and make
report of those in error; so the Business can deal with them.

If this is what you are talking about, I can give more information
about populating POOFFL - it needs just a few fields populated to do its 'thing'.

Sue--- Been there, you will need to write some programs to make it
happen as its more than just making a single program call UNLESS you use System-Link.

call a program with the processing parms.
