I can venture a couple of wild guesses that might give you something to look at. First, I would say that the routers may have hard coded limits to how long an inactive tcp session stays open before it is closed. This would save the router on internal memory and seems like a likely suspect.

Alternatively, the routers may have a periodic re-negotiation of the vpn keys for their connection. When this happens, it is possible that any open inactive tcp sessions would be dropped.

I don't know if either of these is a real issue, just shooting from the hip.

Subject: [MAPICS-L] Powerlink Timing hangs up.

Hi List.

We are running R7.8 .

We have 3 remote locations.

One of the remote locations is about 20 miles away, they run a T1 for internet access.

They like to run Powerlink directly over a VPN , no remote client.

We have Sonicwalls running a perceptual VPN.

They say it runs OK, but when they step away from it, for 10 minutes or so.

It hangs up and they have to restart it.

Have any of you ever come across this type of issue before, and if so, how did you fix it?

Thanks

Weston
