Bob,

Install the 'Add-in' in excel to connect to the iSeries (this is part of
the iseries software).

Once in excel you can get or send data to the iSeries.

The Transfer Data to iSeries is very easy to use, just define headings on
your row 1 (this will be your Field Name) and data in the rest
of the rows.... then select the cell range and follow the wizard to create
the physical file.

Notes:
1. Always use check the option to conver to CCSID 65535
2. When you do the 'Scan' change the fields from 'UNICODE' to
'CHARACTER'.

Bob,

I have used Excel and Access on various occasions to update the XA
offline files...and then run the offline programs within XA. I believe
you can create an ODBC and update the iSeries offline files directly
from Excel...but I have used Access since I found that easier.

As a starting point - have you looked at the file layouts for the XA
offline file loads?

If this sounds like what you are looking for -- give me a call or email
directly and I will try to assist.

Have a great day.

Subject: [MAPICS-L] Loading Offline Files from Excel

Hello,
I have a requirement to load some offline data to our
MAPICS system. Currently it is in an Excel 2003 spreadsheet and I need
to get it into a file on the iSeries that I can use to load from. As I
have never done this before I have no clue on how to proceed.

Could some kind soul out there enlighten me.

Thanks very much in advance
