I'd recommend utilizing the Quality Control features of XA. It means a few extra transactions, but sounds like far less than what you ware doing today with the multiple warehouses.

You can have approved, rejected, pending disposition and expired materials commingled in the locations (although I question the wisdom of such a practice).

Subject: [MAPICS-L] Item Status

We're currently running release 6 but are upgrading to release 9 as we speak. We would like to be able to recieve material and have it book to inventroy GL accounts but remain in a quarentine status where it cannot be issued or seen by MRP until it's been approved. Also, we want to be able to place this material in a location where approved material is stored. We have a visual system to distinguish the approved from the non-approved material. We don't have the space to create a location specifically for quarentine items nor do we want to create a duplicate location for every possible location where we might put this material. What would be ideal is to be able to put the items lots into a "Q" status. When the material is approved it could move to an "A" status.

We're handling this today using multiple warehouses. We created a "Q" warehouse for each of our production plants. When material is recieved into the production plants a trigger fires moving the material to the "Q" warehouse. Once the item has been inspected and approved the material is moved into the production warehouse. There are many disadvantages to this process. It's not efficent, you have to maintain multiple warehouses, you loose tracking information (PO), and other things.

Does anyone out there have a solution to this issue? We would like to keep it all in one warehouse.

Release 9 now has a location status that would be useful but it's not enough.
