So I assume the actual purge is done by running "Print and Clear
Temporary General Ledger", which is option 4 on the AMBM73 menu? If
that's the case, maybe we have just neglected to run it over the years.

If it is being used to its' fullest extent, when you create the Ledger
entries (posting the either the individual transactions or summary
transactions to TEMGEN) the records should be getting purged.
