No, MAPICS is not even aware of them. They are running an application
developed by Highjump that performs all of the business rule
validations. The data is passed both directions between the server and
the iSeries.

Tegal has been using Highjump since before I got here 8 years ago. Our
version is still running on a lonely NT server and has not had a single
problem in all that time. We perform bar coded data collection via hand
held scanners for inventory transactions but we do not collect labor
transactions. There are unattached jobs within XA that collect the data
from the server and post to the appropriate files. Tegal is running on
Release 5.5.

In my opinion the best alternate that is available is Highjump's data
collection ( http://www.highjump.com ).

Just be aware, the MDCC is recommended solution from INFOR at this time.
All other software is finding it more difficult to integrate as INFOR
focuses on its partners.

Hi Vic,

Prior to implementing MDCC, we used Kronos very successfully, for
several
years. Kronos did require special terminals at the time, but it was
possible to have transactions entered directly from a PC if you wanted
to do
so, and the data flowed through to PMC. Also, at FFT, we developed a
couple
custom screens, using standard PMC input as the base, to gather
transactions. That was pretty easy to do. I'm not sure if that's what
you
are looking for, but I'd be pleased to go into more detail if you are
interested. The technology has really improved a lot that way recently.

Management has seen MDCC and wants to know (for comparison purposes) if
there are other data collection systems that integrate w/XA. Not
interested in any systems that require specialized time clocks/data
terminals, PC based systems are a best fit for our shop floor. Thanks.
