Does this mean we can order items, in CSM, by revision number?

Just to chime in...

For those of you who may not be aware, core applications (CSM, PM, MM
etc) in R9 will no longer retrieve item settings from ITEMAS* files when
using EPDM. All item settings will be retrieved from ITMRV* files.

We will still support the optional release function to the ITEMAS* files
as a transition for those who have modifications, but it will no longer
be required for the core applications of XA.

I couldn't agree more... We have ran into soo many issues with the wrong
revision being released.

FYI - I have found it useful to Qry the 'ITMREL' item release file to
PDM, to ensure only one site is synced to PDM.

Also, Costing - 'ucdef' is now supported at the 'site' level in EPDM as
reference in the WH master.

Therese,
I don't know if anybody answered directly one question you had - "Do
you
ever have to do any maintenance to ITEMASA B or C again"? The answer
is
'NO'. When you maintain the item revision record - for example ITMRVA
-
the corresponding item master record - for example ITEMASA - is
maintained
for you by the application. This is so those files can still be used
by
the applications not yet enabled for EPDM. This is done for the
"released" site item revision record. I've always said that the
applications "morphs" the data from your item revision maintenance to
the
item master files. Be aware that you MUST "release" a new item you add
in
order to make it visible to those applications not yet enabled (parts
of
COM and PUR typically) So if you add a new enterprise item and item
revision and DO NOT perform the release function - you might get the
symptom of trying to enter a purchase order for that newly added item
and
get "item not found". And, as mentioned before, only one site's item
revision record can be released (connected) to the item master.

Be careful of queries. I would suggest re-pointing them to the item
revision files. Only because as functions get added to the
applications
new fields are added and, in some cases, replace old fields. So
sometimes
those old fields are no longer updated. One example I can think of
(not
specific to EPDM) is when we added the item base price file and began
storing COM base prices there - the price field in ITEMASA was no
longer
updated or used. But if you had data in that field before - it stayed
there. So some queries might be accessing that field and getting old
data
if they were not changed to use the new item base price file instead.
Similar "unpredictable results" may occur with ITMRV* and ITEMAS*.

Hope that helps.

Dee

Therese--- Even with EPDM the ITEMASA/B/C files still exist (for now)
and are used.

Hello everyone,

We are going to be installing EPDM in a test environment in
the next couple of weeks. I told our "EPDM team" that I would post
this
message on this site to receive input on any concerns and issues that
some of you came across when installing EPDM. There are always some
Gotcha's that we never know about or expect. One question I have is -
If we have programs and queries that are using the ITEMASA,B, or C
files
do we need to convert and direct them to the ITMRVA,B,C files. Do we
ever have to do any maintenance to the ITEMASA,B, or C ever again?
