Our upgrade path was very similar.
A couple of things to consider:
When restoring objects, we did a second pass for logical files to make certain there would be no missing objects.
We changed the IP address on one card on the source system, (the rest were varied off) this allowed us to transfer the same IP addresses to the new system. Anything referencing the addresses therefore, did not require a change.

Sounds like you will be doing a XA migration where the boxes (Source and Target) will be on the same OS level. That's probably the best choice if a possibility. So you could do what you stated.
We did not have the option of upgrading our source box to OS 6.1 - so our migration was from Source box OS 5.3 to new box OS 6.1 (We were on a shared box in a LPAR, and we didn't have a choice... "they" did the "OS stuff", "We" did the "Applications stuff")
So we did these high level steps...:
1) We updated XA on the source system to 7.7 early this year (On a remote system)
2) Set-up the new system locally, we had good support from our affiliate.
3) Did a practice set-up of the new box, bringing XA up on it and the other 3rd party applications. Keys install etc. TESTED to make sure fully functional system! Then set a date for cutover.
4) Did a full system save on a Friday @ 6 PM, shutdown the source system and left it on standby - just in cast. Maybe the tapes would not make it, unreadable or other? So if things went sour, we could bring up the old box again.
5) While waiting for the tapes, cleared libraries on the Target box, knowing we would refresh them with current data (any library that would change). Also needed was network DNS changes; this necessary due to domain change requiring a new IP address for the new server.
6) When the tape arrived on Saturday 1PM, started the refresh...:
7) Restored User Profiles - pick-up new ID's, changed Passwords, etc.
8) Restored User Data - Libraries and IFS Directories
9) Ran object conversions (OS 5.3 to OS 6.1) Ref command: STROBJCVN
9) RSTAUT - restore authorities
10) Ran MAPICS Conversion tool for i 6.1 (SH15514)
11) We had the system ready for validation Saturday approximately 7 PM
12) Determined fit for use and let the network guys enjoy the rest of the weekend.
13) Did full back-ups, set-up anything that referenced our system by IP address to use the new IP address. Ran weekend processes, etc.
14) Monday came in early and was happy to see users typing away. No significant issues. Somebody said the system was reacting too fast and was it working OK? Funny!
Hope this is food for thought, some points would apply in your situation and maybe others might make the OS jump on the Target box as we had too. I've enjoyed putting on my Systems hat again, for the last 3 years systems was outsourced. (We still had applications)

Thanks for the PTF information; we do not have it on our system yet. That should help make our system even faster... So far we only use PDM Plus for Power Link. And as I said before; the move of the server to our local campus was a huge performance enhancer --- so slowness is relative for sure! Plus I like seeing the server sometimes - maybe old school? :-)

I had not responded to the question because we were away for an extended
weekend. The facts remain as I stated in my previous response.
We have applied a patch from IBM (not a published PTF) that deals with a
change in the way that changes to library lists behave in V6R1. In V6R1, a
change to a library list results in a full close/full open of all tables
open in the application. The patch reverts back to the prior logic that
does not force the full close/open routine to happen. We did find some
performance improvement to a number of applications.
Since I last wrote, we have added another full processor to the machine
(processor on demand) and we again saw some performance improvement.
However, our Power Link users (IDF) still report somewhat slower response
times than V5R3 and Infor XA version 6.
In fairness, I should also disclose that we never met any history that we
(the business) wanted to purge and archive so our tables are very large.

We did some research on this recently as we were on V5R3. We have both
R6 and R7.7 environments on our boxes. I posted a similar question as
you have to the group and only got one response - see the link below.
We decided to go with V5R4, because we found very few people making the
