Nick,

I needed this also at my prior job, and my affiliate had a program they sold me (written by Pete O. at Guide Technologies) that built a "super-consolidated where used" file for all my end items. I then defined it in Browser, and the engineers and planners had an awesome tool. It was used a LOT.

I know Pete O. uses this thread a lot - and he has the solution for you. I don't know how you will get it, but what he wrote for me at FFT for this sound like exactly what you need.

Subject: [MAPICS-L] Multi level where used listing

Hello everyone,

I have a requirement to create a report showing all of the Where Used for
a material. This must be multi-level. I know it is easy to go down 1
level in the PSTRUC to find the Parent for the Material, but I need to go
down multi levels.

Let's say I have the following Items:
Component (COMP1)
Component (COMP2)
Parent 1 (PAR1)
Parent 2 (PAR2)
Parent 3 (PAR3)
Parent 4 (PAR4)
Sub-Assembly 1 (SUB1)
Sub-Assembly 2 (SUB2)
Sub-Assembly 3 (SUB3)

The PSTRUC for each looks like this:
PAR1
..COMP1

PAR2
..COMP1

PAR3
..SUB1
....COMP1

PAR4
..SUB2
....COMP2
......SUB3
........COMP1

SUB1
..COMP1

SUB2
..COMP2
....SUB3
....COMP1

SUB3
..COMP1

COMP2
..SUB3
....COMP1

What I need to show in the Where Used for COMP1 is PAR1, PAR2, PAR3, PAR4,
SUB1, SUB2, SUB3 and COMP2.

PAR1, PAR2, SUB1 and SUB3 are included because COMP1 is used directly in
the end product. PAR3 , PAR4, and COMP2 is included because COMP1 exists
somewhere in their Product Structure. I know PAR3 PAR4, and COMP2 do not
directly use COMP1, but this is what the User wants. They will be keying
in the Component they want the Where Used for.

Hopefully this makes sense to you.

Has anyone done anything like this before?

Thanx,

Nick
