William

We have a customized CL that is launched via Robot for our unattended
backups. We actually run three throughout the "day". Our Asian
environments kick off in the early morning, our European backups happen
early evening and finally the US and test environments run around 10pm.
For each of the 8 environments we support,
we get an exclusive lock on the SYSCTL file
rename SYSCTL to prevent anyone from logging in to that environment
hold the jobqs for the environment
When the environment has been saved
rename SYSCTL back
Release jobqs

If there are interactive jobs logged on for the environment being saved,
they get a 3 minute warning and then the backup job automatically
cancels the session; crude but effective. It is very rare for us to have
someone actually working in the environment being backed up and most
environments are saved to tape in less than 30 minutes.

Subject: [MAPICS-L] XA Unattended backup in a 24/7 shop

We are currently doing XA unattended backup from the Job Scheduler
(WRKJOBSCDE). Now the plant has started running 24/7, we are having
some problems with XA getting a dedicated mode to do the backups. This
is a random problem. In the last two weeks it happened twice.
Is there any way to suspend (hold) a user while the saves are running
then start (release) them after? I know this is done for our 'U' jobs.
Any suggestions or ideals would be appreciated.
Thanks,
William Moore
