MAPICS R6's standard AR/AP/GL accounting modules use green screen for
maintenance. There is a GUI application for the old "GLAPPR" accounting
modules called AM+, but at R6 it is strictly inquiry.
You COULD get IFM (International Financial Management), which is GUI at R6.
But that is (IMHO) a pretty expensive solution.
"Back in the day" of the old S/36 and S/38, there were very few integrated
accounting systems available, and MAPICS got a lot of use as an integrated
financial solution. But today, I don't know that it's the most
cost-effective solution for a financial-only package. It's an EXCELLENT
manufacturing product, but I would have to wonder about procuring it for a
financial solution.
Of course, it's a huge plus that it runs on a System I (or whatever it's
called this well).

Hi Mike,
We are at an older version of XAR6, strictly green-screen.
I believe that the newer versions have a GUI, green-screen, or even mixed
mode, versions.
There are a quite a few other people on this list with newer versions that
would know for sure.
Kevin or David from Trimin, any thoughts?
HTH.
Thanx,
Nick

Re: [MAPICS-L] New to the MAPICS Listserv
Thanks -I have not seen MAPCIS in a long long time. Is it still all
green-screen based or does it have a GUI front end now? (Our current
system does have a GUI front end and I don't think I would win the battle
to go back to green-screen)

Mike,
A few years ago, I had clients using MAPICS, DMAS, MMAS, etc.. without
being in Manufacturing nor Distribution.
One was the State of MN, they used DMAS (essentially MAPICS) GL, AP, and
PR with no problems.
Another was a dinner theatre that used the PR, GL, and AR applications of
MMAS, a predecessor of MAPICS.
I believe that the Accounting and Financials are the essentially the same
for all these Applications.
Thanx,
Nick

[MAPICS-L] New to the MAPICS Listserv
The college I work for is in the market for a new iSeries based
GL/AP/Payroll/HR system. A couple of local iSeries users use mapcis but
all are in manufacturing. Is there anyone on this list using Mapics in a
college environment?
