Hello Pete,

There is a procedure to add new storage devices to an AS400. 

You have to IPL manually. On the way you will get the related screens for 
firstly for adding new disks and than configuring them!

A Few years ago I added an New Controller and several Disk Drives to our
old AS/400 at V4R3, IPLed, and every one of them showed up, all by
themselves...

Morning group, This is a non mapics related question for a Mapics
Customer.
My customer added Memory and a Hard Drive. They were self installed. In
talking to the customer neither is being recognized. What are the
commands that need to be run in order for the as400 to know they are
there? Is there a special signon also.

The main memory should be recognized automatically.
Do a WRKSHRPOOL to verify the new memory is recognized.

Disk drives need to be added to the correct ASP.
I don't know what version of the OS you're working with but the
information can be found in Ch 19 of the "Backup and Recovery" guide:
