Line item ship method

Is there a way to define the method of shippment by line item or release?
For example, say we define the ship method for a order to be ground.
But we are late for Release 2 and want to ship it UPS Red, but the rest of
the order is okay
with UPS ground. It is our understanding that we have to change the order
ship method to Red,
and then, when Release 2 ships, change the order ship method back to Ground.
It would be of help if we could define the ship method for each release or
line item.
