Re: [MAPICS-L] Complete Physical Inventory

If your inventory is tagged with barcodes you have a great advantage. We
have barcodes and enough scanners to do a full physical with few manual
tags. Here is what we do:
1. Create a set of bar-coded serial tags.
2. Create a file to hold inventory header records (whse/part/loc) and
detailed records (if you have lots -whse/part/loc/serial)
3. Create a program to load your slqnty into the custom inventory header
(this will hold your initial on hands as well as counted during
physical). Your detail file will be empty to start with
4. The scanning process is as follows:
                 Enter location to scan
Scan serial number (this keeps you from scanning the same
tote
multiple times and makes auditors happy)
Stick serial number to tote/container to be counted
Scan inventory tag (in my case the tag has the qty
already)
Verify information (change qty if necessary), process and
move
to the next tote
The scan process will update the count qty on the header file and
will record the detail serial information on the detail inventory file
5. After scan counts are completed we run variance reports using the
header. We use the detail to help troubleshoot variances.
6. Once variances are checked we load the header file to the off line
load PHVENT and process the regular steps for Mapics inventory.

Good luck!

Subject: [MAPICS-L] Complete Physical Inventory

Hi group!

Due to acquisition we're facing a complete physical inventory that will
shutdown our factory for at least a couple days.

I was curious if anyone had developed a procedure to make the process
more efficient, the most harrowing aspect to me is creating a mechanism
that facilitates the people/paper based counting side and getting the
info uploaded before the factory starts moving parts gain.

Any comments or tips would be appreciated.
