Bryan, I got burnt by *NOMAX a long time ago. It was on a weekend and someone managed to launch a job that produced a report with so many pages that all of the available space on the system was used. When the operating system ran out of space it sent a message to the operator's message queue asking for help and then sat there doing nothing. Killing the job and deleting the huge spool file allowed the system to get healthy again. This was on an early model AS400 with limited file space. If so, which ones and to what? We didn't get a backup last night because a user submitted an Item Balance File List at 10:30 PM and it went into message wait due to CPA4072 - Maximum number of records reached for file AMI2TRP. It was set at 100,000. Investigation revealed that even if set to 999,999, AMI2TRP will bomb with CPA4072 at about 22,000 pages. I changed it to *NOMAX and the report completed normally at 44,000 pages. Surely, some of have run into this before and I'd like to know how you approached it. Thanks, Bryan Burns ECHO, Inc.
