Probaly not a whole lot if your not using Browser/Power-Link etc.

But I think your really missing out, Browser/Power-Link is an excellent
program and can even help ease the burden of IT having to generate
custom reports. If you have some "super-user" people they can quickly (I
have shown someone totally new to MAPICS in about 15 minutes and let
them go from there) be shown how to create custom views, subsets, and
sorts.

Along the same lines as Pete, what benefit is there for us to go to rel
7 if we don't use the gui/browser apps?

When we went from Rel 5 to Rel 6 I believe, we found out that if we
removed the records from IMHIST that the conversion ran MUCH faster. We
copied IMHIST to another library, cleared IMHIST in production, ran the
conversion, then copied the records back into the new IMHIST file. The
file layout was identical, but for some reason it TOOK FOREVER when
going through the conversion.

Having the conversion run interactively NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. Running
interactively should not even be an option, should have been removed
years ago & now with the newer hardware from IBM this really needs to be
updated....

Jim,
thanks for the input... I assume when you say the JAVA based Power Arch
stuff that is all the GUI / Browser / Integrator .
If so, We do not have those modules and are not going to be running
those.

Are there any issues with the old RPG based pgms (Green Screen) Are they

still RPG or something else?

I am just about to do a final migration and "go-live" from R5 to R7 this
month. We decided against going to R6 since it would have taken just as
much time and effort (we have quite a bit of custom code) to do R6 as
R7.

Currently our migration take about 14 hours to run, this is with
essentially all subsystems ended and the interactive session running the
migration program set at priority 1 and timeslice 9999999. It would be
nice and run faster if the migration program would operate as a batch
job instead of interactive (anyone at Infor reading this?).

The largest factor for the migration time for us is that there have
never been any purges to our install. All history for inventory
transactions (IMHIST), MOs, COs, POs, and IFM has been retained since
1998. One thing if your going to do a migration instead of an upgrade is
pay attention to your disk space, since a migration replicates your data
files to the new environment.

If you plan on running the new Java based Power Architecture programs
(Power-Link, etc) in R7 I would say 500cpw is and 1GB memory is under
powered. My system is a 270 with 1050cpw and based on tests with R7 it
just cuts it with Power-Link. If your sticking with green-screen you
should be fine.

Morning Group.

One of my customers is currently on R4. Ptf support has long been
discontinued and soon to be on R5 & R5.5. We are trying to decide from a
dollars and cents point of view should we go to R6 or R7?
We are just kicking tires here and are only thinking about doing this
for support mainly for the P/R module. Not going to purchase any
additional modules. Have not contacted Mapics or affiliate filled out
the questionaire for R7..

We have AP, AR, GL, IM, PR, PDM, PCC, PMC, PUR, SA....

We also have many programs still running in 36 mode. (All in house
custom stuff)

I know R6 is good and I have no doubt that I can get them to R6 with no
problems, and the only expense would be my time.

Questions on going to R7 ..............
Is R7 pretty stabile now, especially with only the modules mentioned
above?
Anyone go from R4 to R7 any problems
How long did the migration take ( This is kind of a broad brush question
because I realize # of modules, size of files, horsepower all go into
this)

Would it be safer to go to R6 then to R7 when they discontinue support
for R6 in 2 - 3 yrs Will there be any conflict or issues with 36 code
and R7

Does my 400 need anything? running on a 520... 70 G disk, 1G memory, 500
cpw, V5R3

Anything I am not thinking about?

Thanks in advance
Pete Olshavsky
