Writing custom history to MNHHDR and MNHDTL -- MAPICS-L

Has anyone tried to  write custom history data to the MAPICS maintenance 
history files MNHHDR and MNHDTL? Does anyone know an easy way of doing 
this? Should I be attempting this?
