There are two ways to approach this situation:

a.. The cleanest way is to set up unique item numbers for the consigned items
and set their standard cost to .000000000001. When you do this, give the items
a unique item class or item accounting class. Then set the general ledger
interfaces up to debit and credit same account when a transaction type / item
has a consignment item class or item accounting class.
b.. If an item can be either consigned or owned, you can get the result you
want in by:
a.. Setting up a separate warehouse for the consigned quantities.
b.. Setting the standard cost for the items in the consignment warehouse to
.000000000001 through the item balance screen.
c.. Set up the general ledger interfaces to debit / credit the same account
when a transaction / warehouse references the consignment warehouse.
d.. When you close out a manufacturing order that uses consigned items, you
will get a favorable material cost variance because you are using consigned
items. Unfortunately, there is no native way to distinguish between material
cost variances resulting from using consigned items and other material cost
variances. If identifying variances caused by using consigned items is
important, you probably have to do this through the GL Interfaces user exits.

Subject: Consignment Inventory in Mapics 6.0

I am currently working with Mapics XA 6.0 and need to set up consignment
inventory. I want to be able to have visibility of the inventory from within
Mapics, but I do not want the inventory to show up in our books.
Any ideas regarding the best way to set this up? I look forward to your
comments.
Thank you,
