We went thru that with the last upgrade ( 4 years ago?).

We had to pay the tier charge, but in the process we converted from site
license to user based. We paid dearly because we got an 820,
and this was before IBM added more ISeries choices & tier schedules.

Next time we upgrade we won't have to pay MAPICS. Hopefully IBM has
improved their OS tier schedule for maintenance,
it was killing us on the 820 so we dropped it years ago - IBM wanted
$36K/year!!

Our European division has been user based since day one, this allows them
to buy used AS/400's and really save!

This is the most opportune time to look at what it costs to upgrade
compared to what it costs to move to an alternative ERP - and make
sure MAPICS knows they aren't the only option you have! Competition is
the only way negotiate with any real leverage.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all on the board & their families!

Subject
Upgrading to new AS400/i-Series

To the list,
I need some assistance if anyone has gone through an upgrade to one of the
new iSeries. The question deals with any additional fees from MAPICS to
move to the new box.

I have 3 customers that are interested in upgrading to a new box but have
been told by the affiliate that it could range in the hundreds of
thousands of dollars to do so. Here is what they want to do:

1) NO NEW MODULES
2) NO CHANGE IN LICENSING AGREEMENT (IE: KEEP WHATEVER METHOD THAT IS
CURRENTLY LICENSED)
3) STAY ON THE SAME TIER BOX (upgrade is primarily for faster box, more
dasd, more memory)

Has anyone gone through this and have you had to pay for MAPICS to give
you the license keys?

MAPICS, if you see this message, please contact me offline so we can
discuss this...

Thanks to all...
