I think for the planning warehouse to see the inventory in the demand
warehouse you have to set a field "include inventory balance" in the item
balance record, too.

Dale,

This process is described in the MRP manual and the function offers some
amount of flexability. It is a matter of setting the codes in the warehouse
master to define if the warehouse is a demand or supplying location. If a
warehouse is a demand location then it can be linked to a planning
warehouse. MRP will see the inventory and the demand from the demand
warehouse and combine it with the planning warehouse.

Dale,

We did this for a while, ended up changing away from it (nothing wrong with
the system - user lock was the problem). Go to IM, (7) File Maintenance,
(12) Work with Warehouses. You can set your planning parameters there. I
have a lot of experience with this, and Jeff Snyder (who also participates
in this thread) is better than me at it.

Thanks Gary. What warehouse master settings would need to be changed to
accomplish this? Point me in the right direction and I'll stick my nose
in the manual for awhile.

Dale,

You can use the warehouse relationship and setup the part warehouse as a
demand warehouse and associate it with the production warehouse where
MRP is
run. This allows you to let MRP to see the requirements from the demand
warehouse and include it with the production warehouse rquirements and
create a complete MRP material plan.

I am attempting to find a quick solution to our spare parts assembly
needs and am seeking advice.

Our spare parts warehouse (4) and production warehouse (1) are separate.

MRP runs in the production warehouse; not in the parts warehouse.

We want to cut MOs in production to build assemblies for spare parts.

Here is the plan being considered:

* Establish safety stock levels for the top "X" number of higher
volume parts assemblies in the spare parts WH.

* Run a nightly job that will create MRP demand in the production
WH for spare part assemblies if the safety stock level is infringed
upon.

o These release exception messages could all appear under a
specific planner so that they are centrally managed by the production
control team

What are some other alternatives that we should consider?

Is the "REQMTS" file the MRP file that we need to populate to initiate
the demand for spare parts items?

Are there ways to configure the warehouse masters to accomplish this in
a more efficient or standardized way?

Other comments or ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Dale Walker
