Hi,

I am not sure whether it helps you, there is a AS/400 command called
DSPFFD (Display File Field Description), you can use this command to
output the result into a file (*OUTFILE), and then query the outfile to
list the file name, field name, and description. A sample of this command
is given below. Q1 is the outfile having the field description of ITEMASA.

DSPFFD FILE(AMFLIB/ITEMASA) OUTPUT(*OUTFILE) OUTFILE(QTEMP/Q1)

Regards, Selva

File Record Layouts: Some good, some not...

A few weeks back, someone pointed me to the File Record Layout option on
CAS
(DB Mod 4). This has been a great help for most files, using the Print
Characteristics option. However, not all files have extended "definition
text". I am somewhat disappointed to look at a file like CUSINV and see
20+
amount due fields, all with the same field text, "TOTAL AMOUNT DUE ON
INVOICE", and no "definition text".

So, where does one go to find out what all of these amount fields really
mean?

tia,
db
