If you have the source for Cross Apps (I'm sure you do), find the CL that runs 
the disk backup - I think it's AXZPZD (that's from memory - I don't have a 
MAPICS system to look at).  Make a copy, remove the SAV and SAVF commands, and 
viola!  You could do it from the tape backup program (AXZPZY?), but it has a 
lot more junk for fussing around with the tape drive in it to remove.

Of course, if you like a challenge you could just reverse-engineer the thing - 
but then you wouldn't be asking here. ;)
