to that stuff (I know I
didn't). And the spreading of information that
isn't readily available to
all of us is what this thread is all about! You
are correct - if I was a
user of EAX (which I've never heard of before) and
it worked well for me,
I'd be recommending it to others on this thread, like
I do COM_Net,
Cornerstone Communication's Unifier, and Electronic Storage
Corp
LaserVault. As it turns out, I am a long-time user of COM_Net (I think
we
were the 2nd company up on it), and it has worked very well for us,
as
should be apparent to people that read my postings on it. We use it
to
accomplish a great deal with our customers beyond what it is
initially
designed for (I will be talking about that at the MUC this year)
without
modifying COM_Net at all.

What I was quite bothered about was
that someone would be sold a package
that would not meet their initial
requirements without knowing it - period.
I have been quite fortunate in
having reputable, honest sales reps that
have been quite up front with me on
limitations of the software I have
acquired. (Incidentally, I am a former
S/A customer, and almost bought
MMA. After careful review, I determined
that MMA wouldn't be effective.)

I think disreputable sales
representatives who only care about getting the
initial sale do more harm
for their software than bad code and/or bugs will
ever cause. I'm always
careful to get several demos and speak to
references whenever possible
before I purchase a new module; exceptions
being when I am one of the 1st to
use the module. Then I get written
assurance of satisfying
requirements.

Dale Gindlesperger
IT Manager/Special Projects

realize that I did not write my response to the original question to
bash
any Strategic Partners. I replied to make the customer aware that ,
even
though MAPICS does not want you to know about it, there are other
solutions
for products that may compete with what they offer. EAX is one
of
those
products. I am sure if Dale at FFT had seen EAX before COM_Net, he
may be
praising their products as well.

But now that the door is open regarding
Strategic Partners, just because
their products are "certified", it does not
mean that they may have the
best
solution to offer. The affiliate is
going to recommend a product that will
give them the best bang for their
buck (Commission). It also does not mean
that the Strategic Partner will be
one forever (this is not the case with
Lexel since the have many products).
Just ask anyone who purchased MMA
from
Silvon, Wisdom or the MAPICS
Portal to name a few. Their companies were
once Strategic Partners, their
products were sold and eventually the
partnership was broken.

For
those customers expecting to see these other great 3rd party

AM
Subject: Re: IFM Financial Division Currency

> Kris, Please
ignore my below mail as I have managed to run the ECCA tool
> for
complete MAPICS i.e. IFM and all other MAPICS modules. The looping was
>
due the base price file. I could trace out the cause of looping after I
>
downloaded and the went through the source of EUROB14R.
>
>
However, I have once issue to ask you. In our IFM we have override
>
exchange rate in all transactions except General Ledger Journal (GLJ),
>
which is actually in SGD entry so there is no exchange rate (ARFZNB)
and
> it is 1. When ECCA converts, it uses the override exchange rate
to
> calculate euro amount, if there is no exchange rate override in
the
> transaction, then it takes the current exchange rate. So for all
GLJ
> transaction it uses the current exchange rate which, result in
some
> difference. Our Finance wanted to use the historical exchange rate
for GLJ
> transactions too. So, I wrote an RPG program to read the
historical
> exchange rate from a user defined file and update override
exchange rate
> (ARFZNB) and the flag to '1' (ARACWC) in YAARREP and run
the ECCA, but
> the result was the same. Could you please give some
advise on this?
>
> Regards,

again,
>
> I managed to install and run the ECCA tool on our test
environment. It was
> successful when I selected IFM only conversion, but
when I run for all
> MAPICS modules, it went into a loop at the procedure
called EUROB14R. When
> I checked the job log the error message '(E)
Foreign Price already
> Exists'. We have COM installed and running.
Please let me know if you have
> any idea of this error.
>
>

Currency
>
>
>
>
>
>
> You might want
to take a look at the ECCA tool and/or its sources. It was
> developed
to do the local currency to EURO conversion in the European
> communtiy.
Essentially it does exactly what you want to do: change the
> local
currency amounts everywhere to something else (all the EUROFLAG
>
juggling which it also does should not bother you too much).
> Consulting
in a Euro participating country i've used ECCA about on 10
>
sites
> and had good expierences with it.
>
> I think it will
cut down the task tremendously. ECCA is free, but I
> believe
>
sources needed to be purchased
>
> Kris De Vlieger
>
>

> Hello,
> >
> > We are in the thinking of changing our
functional currency from
> Singapore
> > $ to US $. I knew that
it is going to be huge amount of work involved in
> > each of the
MAPICS modules where we have kept the amount in local
> > currency.
Financial division reporting currency also need to be changed
>

such a
> > project?. If so, please share your experience.
>
