Michael - all the presentations I've seen of Essentials say it is aimed
mostly at those installations still below Rel 6 - trying to get them to
upgrade to the latest and greatest. As Dale says, the price is very
attractive, especially if you are sitting back at Rel 4 or lower or DB. If
you're already at Rel 6 and have all but a couple of the Browser apps, it is
not quite as good a deal; if you have Rel 6 green screen only, it is the
best way to get the client-server pieces! (BTW, we aren't getting Essentials
- we're already at Rel 6 and we're going to live without the few Browser
apps we don't already have for a while longer. I agree with Dale - we don't
need REP, so why buy it?)

       My 2 cents - Joan

It's a "suite" of MAPICS Browser applications that MAPICS has bundled
together for sale, at a combined price that is less than if purchased
together. I think it includes EPDM (Enterprise Product Data Mgmt), MM
(Materials Mgmt), OBPM (Order Based Production Mgmt), CSM (Customer Service
Mgmt), REP (Repetitive Production Mgmt - heaven knows why this is in there),
PM (Procurement Management), and I think Integrator (not sure if that's part
of it, but if it's not, it should be). It basically enables Browser to
perform the necessary functions of standard ERP provided by green screen
PDM, IM, PC&C, MRP/MPSP (at least, the user portion), Purchasing, and COM.

I think that's all of them - I'm not sure. I got the ERP Essentials (aka
MAPICS Essentials) on my last upgrade just to add OBPM and MM - I had the
rest. The price was pretty attractive.

I have seen the term "MAPICS Essentials". What does this mean or include?
