We opted to not use/allow attachments out of concerns of users going nuts attaching everything! But very soon we will be looking at how to best link the item's manufacturing and sales drawing as we retire our IBM Visual Info product. We'll have about 3000 scanned vellums to tie to the item master. Although the drawings are old, they are still subject to revision control. And our method must be capable of linking our more dynamic solidworks CAD drawings. I'm not worried about networks shares or security, simply the robustness and core integrity of what we plan to do. After all it has to appeal to the users more than the old way. We've had some thoughts on using the attachment concept, but maintaining it externally, simply having the feature for user's retrieval purposes in a read- only fashion. But since we have more than one type of drawing (sales, mfg, inspection, etc.) to link, we made need something more structured. It would also be nice to come up with a storage model that would allow sales to 'attach' all their related data and eliminate paper files. But that's a can of worms I'm not ready for. Anyone using Attachments in Browser? Have you run into any problems? Where did you decide to store the attachments and why? Security issues? Any feedback is appreciated! Lisa A.
