I have done this with Visual Basic, Java, and a Limited version in RPG. The basic approach is called recursion (a function that calls itself). Basically, you create a subroutine that performs a single level BOM. Into it, you pass the Parent PN, Qty, Cost etc... This function will loop through the BOM and grab all the child PN's. A call is made to the same function to retrieve the same data for the next level down. This will continue until you reach the bottom of the BOM. Then the program will backup one level and do the same routine on the next child item. It gets a bit confusing, but it does not require much code. It is actually kind of elegant once you get it working. Regards, Allan Schmit Sr. Systems Analyst Weir Slurry TM North America Hello All, Anyone have a pc app (excel or access) that uses ODBC, etc. and has a SQL query that successfully will produce an indented bill of material? We're working on a little project where we want to throw the BOM into Access or Excel and can't seem to put together the proper joins to accomplish this. Probably something simple. Any hints, examples, etc. appreciated. Thanks, Tom Wood Fort Recovery Industries Inc.
