I have implemented mapics 'lot control'
the level of tracking depends on your requirements, if you require
tacability back to originating supplier, you will need to track at all
levels of mfg, and customer order shipping. obviously some parts will not
need lot tracking, F/S = U, etc.
If you only need to trace back to your MO, and internal process, then only
the end-item would need lot tracking.
couple other I/M issues you will need to address,
you cannot backflush a controlled item, f/s='c', obviously f/s code of 'u'
is not tracable either.
these must be discrete issues, IPed to an MO.
be careful of issuing multiple lots to the same MO, wont you lose specific
tracability?
and you will not be able to ship complete in COM, you'll need to specify the
'lot' shipped, again i would not ship multiple lots on the same line item.
the whole logistics of tracking, identifying, and cycle counting are of
course other related issues.
hope this helps...
good luck
